The Opportunity

As an iOS Principal Engineer on the Digital Solutions' mobile team, you will be responsible for the design, development and delivery of Ally native iOS mobile applications. You must exhibit good interpersonal and communication skills and have experience working with product owners as well as internal and external technical teams and resources. You'll be delivering in an Agile operating model in which collaboration and a sense of team is paramount to your success.

The Work Itself

Assist in defining specifications for significant new projects and perform professional software development tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of iOS applications according to the specifications. Additionally, provide leadership and expertise in the development of new products, services and processes including:

  • Lead an Agile mobile development team, while writing high-quality, versatile code (60-75+% development)
  • Partner with external technology teams including Solution Architects and API delivery teams to design and integrate best-in-class solutions to industry standard methodologies
  • Partner with product owners to prioritize and define roadmaps that deliver capabilities, aligning with commitments to partners
  • Conduct and participate in code review sessions to ensure quality and performance
  • Create and communicate reports and presentations to senior leadership and other business partners
  • Support the system integration and user acceptance testing resources by providing timely defect analysis, remediation, and resolution
  • Deliver secure solution inclusive of remediation of items discovered in security scanning process
  • Know the latest within mobile technology landscape by researching, experimenting and analyzing emerging technologies for use within Ally's mobile channel

The Skills You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in designing, developing and delivering cohesive, resilient and high-performing native iOS mobile applications
  • 3+ years of experience in managing and leading a team of developers to drive the delivery of ios/android native app features
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the following:
  • iOS
  • Objective-C, Swift and their interoperability
  • Swift UI ( Declarative UI )
  • XCode
  • Foundational Elements of iOS including Coredata, Grand Central Dispatch, UIKit, Keychain, Codeable, URLSession, and SwiftUI
  • Experience in CocoaPods, Swift Package Managers etc..
  • MVC, MVVM, Declarative UI, design patterns, Human Interface Guidelines
  • Performance testing with Instruments, Unit tests with XCTest, Automation tests with XCUITest
  • Significant experience integrating internal and external RESTful APIs
  • Significant experience evaluating and integrating Third Party SDKs
  • Significant experience translating product requirements into design specifications
  • Significant experience working with accessibility frameworks
  • Experience in working on AWS capabilities like Amplify, Pinpoint etc..
  • Preferred knowledge in cross platform hybrid technologies – ReactNative/Flutter etc..
  • Experience with at least one SDLC methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall)
  • Extensive Debugging and problem-solving skills
  • Experience coordinating application enhancements with Business partners
  • Strong sense of ownership, passion to build quality products for massive scale in collaborative, agile environment and excitement to learn.
  • Ability to provide expert level support and maintenance of core software functionality to solve problems and implement changes
  • Interest in new technologies and vision to identify opportunities for improvement within the team and broader business unit
  • Experience developing large scale, highly available distributed systems
  • Experience in a financial services or brokerage environment is a plus
  • BS / MS / PhD in in Computer Science, Math or related engineering fields or equivalent practical experience
