The Opportunity

Ally is looking for a Technical Lead to own key components of Ally’s next generation Customer Communication Platform (CCM). You will work with within and across technology teams, product teams and subject matter experts to build and enhance core capabilities of a platform that communicates relevant messages to Ally customers across all lines of business. The ideal candidate will be a technical expert, a natural leader, and possess attention to detail with a track record of flawless execution.

As an Ally Tech Lead, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing cloud-based applications hosted on the serverless cloud. As a member of an Enterprise Platform Team, you’ll have the opportunity interact with people across the organization while working with cutting edge cloud technologies.


You will serve as technical champion for the platform, will collaborate closely with a team of talented developers and will ensure high quality code and continuous improvement of the platform. You will have experience developing and regularly deploying software in an agile environment utilizing modern DevOps practices. The Work Itself

    • Communicate with senior management to obtain information
    • Coordinate and drive deployments from Innovation through Production
    • Perform code reviews on any promoted code and ensure that others do as well
    • Ensure that application and infrastructure code (serverless cloud infra) meet established and implied standards for security, maintainability, test coverage, observability, scalability, performance, accuracy, and resiliencyPresent technical status and raise impactful issues/solutions as appropriate
    • Manage daily standups and other agile routines as part of daily responsibilities
    • Use your technical knowledge, your creativity, and leverage the talent of the team to create solutions and enable capabilities in line business and technical priorities
    • Encourage documentation of technical standards and processes
    • Collaborate with Technical Team and Product Owners to manage sprint backlog, write technical stories
    • Responsible for execution of new features and for ongoing optimization of the Platform
    • Expect to design, write, review, and deploy code 60-70% of the time
    • Create technical designs (Activity Diagrams/Sequence Diagrams, API service specifications and message models) by working closely with Technology and Business partners.
    • Lead/mentor/guide an agile team of cloud application engineers in end-to-end platform component development

    The Skills You Bring


    • Minimum of 6+ years of experience in designing, developing, and delivering high performing, highly available AWS cloud applications
    • 3+ years of experience leading, mentoring, and motivating developers
    • A clear understanding and ability to articulate not just the what but the why for any problem or solution being addressed
    • Strong knowledge of multiple, modern programming languages such as Node, Java, GO, Python. Node experience is a requirement.
    • Experience with AWS serverless cloud devops tooling including:
      • Terraform
      • Git/Gitlab
    • Specific experience and demonstrated skills with AWS Services:
      • Lambda, SQS, DynamoDB, Aurora / RDS, Kinesis, Event Bridge, IAM, OpenSearch, Kibana
    • Comfort and familiarity with databases:
      • Relational databases including DML, DDL, SQL
    • Experience creating and consuming web services with tools including:
      • JSON/REST
      • API Gateways, specifically Apigee
    • Be a technical authority and work with other team members
    • Demonstrate intellectual curiosity, an ability to anticipate, and an appetite for learning
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other related subject area preferred
