The Opportunity

    • Responsible for new model development and sophisticated analytics - statistical and predictive analytics, machine learning modeling, etc.
    • Partner with a cross-functional team of Business Analysts, data scientists and product managers to identify model use cases and implement model for use in decision making
    • Effectively coach, mentor and motivate teammates and foster teamwork and a cross learning culture
    • Identify opportunities to enhance validation and AR processes
    • Engage in R&D work for alternative modeling techniques
    • Clearly communicate and document findings to internal and external stakeholders in a collaborative manner
    • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with participants / stakeholders within Ally's model risk management community

The Work Itself

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in computer science, mathematics, finance, economics, statistics or another quantitative discipline, or sufficient work experience and professional certificate
  • 7+ years model development or validation experience specific to market, credit and/or operational risk measurement methodologies and quantitative analytics
  • Strong familiarity with market risk (in particular, interest rate risk) and prepayment models 
  • Detailed knowledge of financial instruments and derivative pricing
  • Familiarity with financial markets and portfolio management theories
  • Experience with vendor solutions (Bloomberg, FINCAD, BlackRock) is preferred
  • Strong familiarity with regulatory guidance in the model space (i.e., SR 11-7)
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with credit risk (underwriting, CECL loss reserving, portfolio management), operational risk measurement, and stress testing methodologies / quantitative analytics is a plus
  • Knowledge of applied statistics such as Regression Analysis, Bayesian Statistics, Machine Learning/AI, etc.
  • Ability to assess model conceptual design, back-testing of model results, theoretical underpinnings and assumptions, model owner controls over data flows, model execution, and compliance of model results with intended application by model users 
  • Ability to challenge model frameworks through benchmark/challenger model development using advanced modeling techniques
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex financial and mathematical concepts to both technical and business audiences
  • Proficient in programming languages including SAS, R, Python; knowledge of Cloud model implementation is a plus

The Skills You Bring

  • 5+ years of analytics experience preferred.
  • PhD preferred.
  • Experience with logistic regression, decision trees, survival analysis, mathematical program is a plus.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Strong application knowledge of SAS.
  • Strong analytical, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and balance multiple initiatives and efforts.
  • Ability to respond quickly to a changing environment.
