The Opportunity

The Director of Digital Portfolio Delivery will be responsible for supporting, enabling, and expanding our agile delivery practice across Digital Technology at Ally. This group is responsible for our digital experience across our customer facing channels including Web, Mobile, and AI.   This position will serve as a portfolio lead under the guidance of the Senior Director of Technology and will be responsible for managing a software delivery portfolio in direct support of our cross-functional Scrum and Kanban teams. The role will be accountable to deliver joint technology & business solutions, support & optimize team delivery, remove team impediments, and provide overarching governance and budgetary support for the organization.

The Work Itself

The Director of Digital Portfolio Delivery will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery execution plans for digital initiatives.  This position partners with the line of business through requirements gathering, technical design, and then ultimately, aligning the plan across multiple agile team roadmaps to delivery and release of software.  This includes managing dependencies, overseeing timelines, handling risks and adjustments base on project obstacles, and managing the end-to-end software delivery across a large, distributed set of teams.  This is a role where thought leadership, the ability to communicate effectively, an understanding of Digital technology and the drive to empower agile teams through a consistent, continuously improving operating model come together to enable value delivery. 

  • Management and support of agile teams embedded within a fixed capacity ecosystem 
  • May lead a team of software delivery managers to focus on sustainable high-quality delivery 
  • Collaborates closely with the business and matrixed technology teams to analyze the current state of processes and systems, then use that information, along with business strategies to formulate a future state process and system design 
  • Bring transparent delivery metrics supporting our delivery with a focus on continuous improvement 
  • Enable organizational capacity planning and corresponding program increments 
  • Responsible for resolving issues and mitigating risks across teams, escalating issues/risks when appropriate. 
  • May manages scrum masters, which may include Ally employee and/or vendor team members, informs the team of its progress; leads/develops Ally staff members. 
  • Acts as team's interface to Technology and Business Partners; develops/maintains strong relationship with vendor teams and vendor management. 

The Skills You Bring

Technical Skills

  • 7+ years of technology work experience or equivalent work experience 
  • Experience with transforming organizations to agile at scale 
  • Dedicated agile experience with a background in portfolio management and reporting in an agile ecosystem 
  • Familiarity and technical understanding of digital technologies and experiences preferred 
  • Ability to influence change across a matrix organization and collaborate with business and technology teams to deliver solutions 
  • Customer Focus -- proven track record of customer satisfaction and delivery success and ability to establish and maintain appropriate relationships with business and IT stakeholders 
  • Consulting/Problem Solving -- ability to work in an advisory capacity to identify key technical and business problems, develop and evaluate alternative solutions and make recommendations 
  • Systems Delivery -- extensive experience in all aspects of the software development life cycle 
  • Technical Project Management -- expertise in project management including project planning and estimating, project budgeting, staffing, change control, and status reporting 
  • Manage teams of technical delivery managers and scrum masters focused on technical delivery 
  • Behavioral & Communication Skills 
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels, from team members to senior management 
  • Ability to exchange constructive and respectful feedback, collaborating with other groups on standards/best practices 
  • Must be able to communicate ideas and best practices to more junior developers (the why and the how) 
  • Enthusiasm and a desire to be part of an innovative team 
  • A commitment to quality, and a desire to improve
