The Opportunity

  • Serves as a technical specialist to lower-level engineers. Acts as a liaison between the development teams and product teams to ensure feature delivery happens on time and upholds technology standards. Provides technical expertise in the establishment and implementation of standards and guidelines that guide the design of technology solutions including architecting and implementing solutions requiring integration of multiple platforms, operating systems, and applications across the enterprise. Keep up to date on technology trends and may participate in the establishment and implementation of standards and guidelines that guide the design of technology solutions. Will act as a first level supervisor and review, mentor, and evaluate the performance of individual team members. This is a senior-level highly technical role with potential responsibility for managing a small team of more junior engineers.

The Work Itself

  • Uses a broad and deep understanding of technical concepts in multiple specialized fields to develop solutions to problems and critical design issues.
  • Work assignments are typically focused on critical products for the organization.
  • Will supervise the work of lower-level personnel and facilitate Agile ceremonies on his/her team.
  • Creates solutions that significantly impact the future success of the customer and his/her department.
  • Changes the overall plan, goal, or project to improve the efficiency or potential of a situation.
  • May manage relationships with suppliers/vendors.
  • Configure, implement, and tune technology solutions to meet business and technical requirements on designated projects
  • Participate in system testing activities related to infrastructure solutions
  • Create technical documentation to ensure effective operations/support of the infrastructure solution
  • Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
  • Monitor technology availability and reliability and when necessary will assist with leading cross-domain operational/engineering teams and LOB application teams to triage high priority or performance degrading incidents
  • Assist with operations and production coverage; provide 1st and 2nd level support for technical area of responsibility
  • Support/Perform change requests as required for hardware upgrades, additions, configuration changes, etc. with proactive co-ordination with vendors and Ally stakeholders
  • Follow Change Management, Release Management, IT Risk - Compliance processes and standards
  • Interpret new directions in technology in a way that creates greater clarity for team members
  • Advocate for Ally customers in our day-to-day operations

The Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor's or MS degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience building and scaling dynamic, interactive websites using Angular5+, Node, ES6/TypeScript
  • 2+ years’ experience as a technical lead or manager of an agile team
  • Experience with React, Vue and other modern JavaScript frameworks
  • Experience with NGXS, NGRX or RxJS
  • Experience managing cloud-native applications through AWS with specific familiarity with ECS, Elastic Beanstalk, CodePipeline, S3+Cloudfront, Lambdas, SQS, SES, Cognito
  • Experience managing OAuth 2.0 integrations and understanding of authentication and security patterns and best practices for modern JS applications
  • Expertise in managing CI/CD processes and automated application deployments and maintenance in complex software ecosystems
  • Experience with Infrastructure as code, especially with Terraform
  • Experience with managing work through Jira as part of a Scrum team
  • Experience with building Accessible web applications
  • Experience with one or more test frameworks with Angular applications – Jest, Mocha, Jasmine, Cypress
  • Experience with Bitbucket or Gitlab including deployment pipelines
  • Experience building and maintaining RESTful services
  • Experience with APM, Log Aggregation and Session Recording tools
  • Ability to
