Work Schedule: Ally designates roles as (1) fully on-site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. The Opportunity

Location: hybrid in-office role in Detroit, MI or Schaumburg, IL

The Senior Supervisor Insurance Underwriting will support our auto dealer partners by protecting their most valuable assets -- their inventory. For a dealer who finances through Ally, we provide physical damage coverage for the cars on their lot, strengthening the bonds between our organizations. An Underwriter will evaluate risks according to location, physical and moral hazards, individual risk characteristics, inspection reports, loss experience and company guidelines in order to accept, decline or modify a business submission. The Senior Supervisor will also be responsible for overseeing a team of Underwriting Associates and be held accountable for engagement and productivity.

The Work Itself

  • Serves as a consultant and leader on the commercial underwriting team
  • Acting in a capacity to producers, customer service and claims personnel, as required
  • Works on special projects and assists in managing dealer inventory programs
  • Underwrites new and renewal business for multiple insurance programs
  • Submits complex or unusual risks, or risks exceeding personal underwriting authority to the appropriate party for appropriate handling
  • May be assigned specific accounts or territories and is responsible for the profitable performance of that book of business
  • In Addition to the Sr. Underwriter responsibilities:
  • Responsible for 2-3 direct reports, overseeing Underwriting Assistant/Associate Underwriting Team
  • Held accountable for engagement & productivity of direct reports
  • Gathers and tracks performance measurements for Underwriting Assistant Team. Provide Mentorship to employees below target and provide recognition to employees exceeding target
  • Participate in hiring process for new Underwriting Assistants. Perform resume reviews, coordinate candidate interview selection and scheduling, interview candidates and inform hiring decision
  • Provide Underwriting Managers with feedback and updates on employee performance, training activities, and career development
  • Conduct bi-weekly meetings with Underwriting Assistants and provides manager feedback on team and individual performance. Finds opportunities for growth & additional training
  • Conducts weekly coordination with the Account Management Team Leaders on upcoming new business & renewals
  • Provides solutions to complex situations that arise within team
  • Helps Ally & broader insurance organization in reaching strategic goals

The Skills You Bring

  • 4+ years in underwriting, financial services or similar industry is needed
  • Prior leadership and insurance underwriting experience is strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in business related discipline preferred or combination of education/experience
  • Perform technical tasks required to support ongoing business operations
  • Requires advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs

Incentive Compensation: This position is eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan.
