The Opportunity

Ally is seeking a passionate Sr. Director of Platform Architecture for their Enterprise Architecture team. The Enterprise Architecture group is responsible for solution architecture across all business lines including data, cloud, security architecture and the technology innovation lab. Reporting to the CIO-Enterprise Architecture, the Sr. Director is responsible for advancing business architecture and Ally’s company platform strategy. Ally’s Company platform strategy is a key strategic pillar of our Technology strategy. It is a Gartner recognized program that promotes composable technology platforms with enterprise scope, developed with a product mindset and servicing all lines of businesses. These allow business to assemble capabilities rapidly.

The Sr Director of Architecture is a leadership position with a regular exposure to the Technology and business Senior Leadership Team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working as a trusted advisor to peers, leaders and C-Suite executives building credibility by demonstrating a deep domain technical expertise and superb communication and influencing skills to define the technology strategies and roadmaps.

The Work Itself

  • Lead the architecture team responsible for actionable architecture
  • Interface seamlessly with business and technology executives to understand business strategy and set a long-term technical direction
  • Work with the CIO, and peers (Engineering and Program Management) to identify, assess and define the engineering roadmap to improve system scalability, reliability, and performance
  • Provide technical guidance and insight to Technology leadership and business teams by keeping up to date with the latest digital technology developments, executing research and recommending future technology direction
  • Make technology decisions with an enterprise context and work with across the enterprise with infrastructure, data, and corporate functions to ensure architecture designs are reusable across LOBs as much as possible
  • Optimize architecture to improve agility and time to market resulting in a culture of proactive and early engagement of the Architecture team by the business and product partners
  • Act as the escalation point and capable of jumping in to lead teams facing extremely difficult technical challenges
  • Must be experienced and comfortable working in Agile environments and cultures where senior leaders regularly engage in detailed problem solving
  • Mentor members of the architecture team and other high potential engineers and managers
  • Recruits and develops appropriate talent pool to insure adequate bench strength and succession planning. Recognizes and rewards associates for accomplishments

The Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in STEM Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years' professional experience in software development/engineering
  • 10+ years leadership experiences in application architecture and delivery
  • Highly technical, hands-on yet demonstrated ability to think strategically about business and technical challenges
  • Demonstrated success as a change agent leading transformational initiatives in organizations
  • Expert knowledge in software engineering best practices and software development life cycle
  • Experienced with Agile practices and DevOps process and tooling for deployment, monitoring, and site reliability engineering
  • Proficient in Open source technology stacks, infrastructure and data analytic technologies
  • Working knowledge of private and public cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, and Google)
  • Must be a fast-paced and solution-focused "driver" for results in a performance culture, but also achieve results in a collaborative manner
  • Must be an effective communicator with the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences at all levels and considered to be a developer of people who is comfortable working with a broad cross section of people in direct and matrixed relationships
