Work Schedule: Ally designates roles as (1) fully on-site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. Hybrid roles are generally expected to be in the office a certain number of days per week as indicated by your manager. The Opportunity

This role is on a hybrid schedule in our Charlotte, NC office. 

As the HRBP Sr. Director, you will operate as the strategic talent leader for a specific business unit or function, developing & driving the overall human capital strategy for that group. Using an analytical mindset, industry knowledge, and deep business acumen, you will drive organizational design, total rewards and retention strategies, workforce assessment and enablement, and leadership effectiveness initiatives in an evolving AI-enabled business environment. Understanding the strategic priorities of your client group, you will design and lead human capital initiatives to achieve operational efficiency and/or growth, then lead change management efforts to operationalize those priorities in partnership with various HR Centers of Excellence. As a member of the business unit leadership team, you will contribute to the strategy and priority setting for the business, translating the business strategy into scalable organizational initiatives that balance innovation, efficiency, and employee experience & development in alignment with enterprise goals and HR policies and practices.​

You will regularly interact with other senior level internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Board of Directors, external auditors, regulators), and frequently interact with Ally Executive and Senior Leadership. Reporting to an Executive Director, you will demonstrate strong leadership abilities with minimal supervision or direction. You will be expected to manage direct report(s) at the Manager or Director level, providing oversight to and developing HR Business Partners with minimal to moderate supervision depending on level.​

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in organizational effectiveness & design, change management & leadership, and talent strategy, with the credibility to influence at the executive level and the foresight to help leaders adapt in a rapidly evolving world.

The Work Itself

  • Lead business unit or function-level organizational design initiatives aligned to business strategy, growth priorities, and operational efficiency
  • Assess organizational health, spans and layers, decision rights, and role clarity to improve agility, speed, and accountability
  • Guide workforce transformation efforts, including reskilling, redeployment and role redesign
  • Serve as trusted advisor and valued business partner to executive leadership and their teams.  Align human capital priorities to achievement of overall business strategic priorities
  • Drive large-scale change management initiatives and ensure alignment across talent, performance, rewards, and learning to reinforce desired behaviors and outcomes.
  • Act as a leader, facilitating effective group interactions that create positive change
  • Evaluate and analyze data and to determine HR issues and trends impacting the business unit
  • Provide strategic inputs to solution complex issues in the areas of workforce planning, turnover, employee engagement and leadership development
  • Navigate complex situations such as conflict resolution and mediation, exhibiting exceptional influence, coaching and emphatic listening alongside proper effective challenge.
  • Act as a coach and mentor to leaders by offering creative solutions to sensitive issues using a multi-disciplined approach
  • Consult and orchestrate human capital priorities and annual processes such as compensation, engagement,  performance management, talent management, talent acquisition and leadership development
  • Translate leadership needs to HR COEs to continuously improve HR operating model; Provide input to the COEs to shape future content and programs
  • Proactively identify methods to enable HR support utilizing AI; remain in-tune with industry trends and HR best practices, particularly with usage of evolving technology
  • Coach, manage and develop employees to reach their highest level of potential and performance
  • Apply relevant regulations, policies and procedures to business issues and day to day responsibilities
  • Serve as a role model for the Ally “Do It Right” culture

The Skills You Bring

Minimum Qualifications

  • 12+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • High school Diploma or GED equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ years of progressive HR experience with at least 8 years of HR leadership experience responsible for designing and delivering human capital strategies at the C-Suite level.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in HR or related field; Master’s recommended, SPHR or equivalent recommended.
  • Multi-disciplinary HR experience including previous roles in HR CoEs such as Talent, Total Rewards, ER, etc.
  • Experience building trust with, supporting, and influencing leaders at all levels, including C-Suite, in complex, fast-changing, or technology-driven environments.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to coach and influence at the C-Suite level while navigating complex stakeholder dynamics.
  • Strategic consulting background preferred with ability to collaborate across the company.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale organizational changes including people and processes.
  • High capability in strategic and systems level thinking, strong business acumen, ability to make and manage decisions under ambiguity.
  • Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas to larger groups on behalf of business unit or function
  • Demonstrate strong data literacy with the ability to analyze and interpret data to draw insights on human capital priorities and solution accordingly.
  • Strong relationship management skills with experience in partnering and coaching while building credibility with senior leaders
  • Ability to manage performance, coach and mentor
  • Demonstrated experience providing creative solutions to address HR challenges and implications of the organization business strategies.
  • Ability to use professional concepts and company policies and procedures to solve a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways.
  • Ability to use judgment, creativity and sound technical knowledge to obtain and recommend solutions.
  • Strong command of employment law
  • Experience managing others preferred

Base Pay Range: $165000 - $240000 USD
An individual's position in the range is determined by the specific role, the scope and responsibilities of the role, work experience, education, certification(s), training, and additional qualifications. We review internal pay, the competitive market, and business environment prior to extending an offer. 
Incentive Compensation: This position is eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan.
