The Opportunity

Ally’s Internal Audit Methodology and Operations team is the team that drives the audit engine at Ally. This team is responsible for ensuring a productive, cohesive, and robust approach across the various teams that execute audit work across Ally’s business and enterprise functions. This role reports directly to the Chief Audit Executive and will help support the department’s vision and strategy, which is focused on providing high quality assurance and advisory service the organization and serving as a catalyst for proactive risk identification and maintaining a strong control environment. This position supports department leadership in its oversight of audit practices and is critical to helping ensure the function consistently achieves compliance with IIA standards and regulatory expectations.


The Work Itself

  • Lead and develop a diverse group of high-performing professionals with responsibilities spanning program/project management, audit methodology, operations and reporting, exam support and quality assurance.
  • Develop personal and professional credibility with other audit leaders and audit teams to effectively balance priorities and perspectives and manage relationships across the various teams.
  • Act as central point of contact for Internal Audit for initiatives which require a cohesive CAE-level lens (e.g. M&A activities or other new business initiatives), as well as internal activities which span across the audit leadership team.
  • Continuously enhance and strengthen audit methodology to adhere to evolving regulatory expectations, build repeatable processes to perform ongoing analysis of all internal audit activities and results to report key metrics, themes and trends, and emerging risks to the Audit Committees and to various risk management committees.
  • Lead the Annual Audit Planning process, Continuous Monitoring, and Audit process / methodology.
  • Lead Audit program office, providing PMO leadership to initiatives that may extend across the department.
  • Lead and oversee the quality assurance improvement program and team, with a focus on ensuring it serves as a catalyst for continuous improvement of audit practices and activities.
  • Seek and apply external perspective to align Ally’s internal audit practices and approaches with that of the industry and competitive landscape.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with regulatory bodies (FRB, UDFI, CFBP) to understand current and emerging supervisory priorities as well as foster an environment of on-going, proactive communication via regular updates, exams, action item remediation, or ad-hoc interactions.
  • Actively contribute to the execution of the department’s transformation initiatives which impact stated areas of responsibility.

The Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with 10+ years of work experience in financial services or management consulting.  Broad industry acumen and experience across several segments such as Internal Audit, Risk Management, Line of Business Management / Operations, Technology / PMO, and / or business strategy desired.
  • Highly-motivated, results-oriented individual with an established track record in building effective programs and transforming strategy into action.  Experience in influencing and leading organizational change and interacting effectively with all levels of the organization.
  •  Strong relationship-building skills with a pragmatic, problem-solving approach towards developing collective, thoughtful approaches, clearing roadblocks, and enabling team success.
  • Executive presence, with proven ability to work with examiners and to collaborative successfully with senior leaders across the enterprise.
  • Understanding and exposure to balancing operating within a highly-regulated industry while achieving business / growth objectives.
  • Ability to think and act both strategically and tactically, strong communicator, highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to exercise independent thought and judgment; comfort with dynamic set of priorities and proven ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point).
