Ally and Your Career

Ally Financial only succeeds when its people do - and that’s more than some cliché people put on job postings. We live this stuff! We see our people as, well, people - with interests, families, friends, dreams, and causes that are all important to them. Our focus is on the health and safety of our teammates as well as work-life balance and diversity and inclusion. From generous benefits to a variety of employee resource groups, we strive to build paths that encourage employees to stretch themselves professionally. We want to help you grow, develop, and learn new things. You’re constantly evolving, so shouldn’t your opportunities be, too?

Work Schedule: Ally designates roles as (1) fully on-site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. Hybrid roles are generally expected to be in the office a certain number of days per week as indicated by your manager. Your hiring manager will discuss this role's specific work requirements with you during the hiring process. All work requirements are subject to change at any time based on leader discretion and/or business need.

The Opportunity

** Please note, this role can be filled with a strong 3F Senior Analyst or a 2E – Principal level based on experience. **

This position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to apply modeling and analytics skills to an insurance business that is a subsidiary of a large financial institution.  The senior analyst/principal owns the lifecycle of Ally Insurance’s customer profitability models, beginning with identifying needs from key stakeholders across various business units, understanding existing data, working with internal partners to close data gaps, gaining buy-in of profitability model usability from senior leadership, and using model outputs to assist the team in developing an underwriting risk monitoring function.  In addition to serving as the subject matter expert to model users, the senior analyst/principal will provide the business and senior leadership with key insights and trend analyses.

The Work Itself

  • Lead the planning, building and enhancing profitability models and downstream underwriting risk reporting through collaboration with internal matrix partners (product pricing, finance, and other data/analytics functions)
  • Present regularly to stakeholders and senior leadership to highlight analyses, model and product/portfolio trends and insights, and impact analyses on modeling and reporting enhancements and version changes
  • Use models to design and perform ad hoc analyses on profitability trends, risks, and opportunities; also to own other ad hoc projects as needed
  • Manage the governance of the team’s models and reporting tools, from successfully implementing sound control processes to leading the tools through effective review and validation exercises performed by Ally’s various Risk functions

The Skills You Bring

  • 3+ years (3F) / 5+ years (2E) of experience in analytics, data analysis, modeling, forecasting or a similar role focused on data/statistical analysis required
  • Proficiency in data analysis design tools and analytics languages such as SQL, Python, or R; prior exposure to SAS or PowerBI is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as data science/analytics, statistics, finance, economics, mathematics, actuarial science, or related is required
  • Progress toward an advanced degree (such as MS in data science/analytics) or actuarial exam progress is preferred
  • Related work experience can be used in lieu of degree
  • Ability to form collaborative working relationships with partners across job functions and experience levels
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, should be a critical thinker, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Prior experience with cross-functional and/or multifaceted projects is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate ideas and insights to non-technical audiences, including senior leaders
