The Opportunity

The Principal – Data Engineer will be a part of the Enterprise Data & Analytics team.

The incumbent will be a part of the engineering team that develops data pipelines & objects in the warehouse application. The warehouse contains the data, historical & transactional, for several up-stream applications. Currently changes are being done to accommodate some new lines of business as well as transformation of upstream applications from legacy to modern.

The Work Itself

The incumbent must have extensive experience in any warehousing platform. The individual must possess strong skills with SQL, PL/SQL, expertise in ETL tools, like DataStage. The individual must also have a strong knowledge of AWS services. Exposure to Snowflake or other Cloud based Warehousing applications is a plus. Knowledge / exposure to reporting & analytical tools is desirable.

The incumbent will work closely with a variety of groups throughout the organization, which will require the ability to communicate with associates with backgrounds ranging from business & data analysts, application developers, DBAs, business & reports users spreading across a wide range of operating units. The incumbent must also exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills and have experience interacting with internal technical and business partners as well as external partners. Experience with on-shore and off-shore contractors is a plus.

This position is for a passionate experienced individual with great technical skills with the following responsibilities

  • Engage in application design discussions as it pertains to the upscaling the application
  • Break down the design into build / change components\
  • Leads code review sessions to validate adherence with development standards and benchmark application performance by regression & capacity testing ahead of Production deployment
  • Leads the activities to transition new development into Production Operations
  • Leverages DevOps techniques and Experience with DevOps tools like GitLab, Jira and Jenkins
  • Leads discussions resulting from Production issues found in objects that this team is responsible for

The Skills You Bring

  • 5+ years overall IT experience
  • 5+ years of experience in any Warehousing application, either on-prem or cloud based
  • Excellent PL/SQL procedure and SQL skills
  • Expertise in ETL / ELT tools DataStage and other tools like dbtCloud
  • Strong AWS services knowledge
  • Unix shell scripting, AWK scripting for automating several DBA tasks
  • Rich experience in DevOps techniques and tools like GitLab, Jira and Jenkins to build automation
  • Owns the authoring and coordination to deliver documentation needed for the Production Operations team
  • Ability to work in a large, complex business and technical environment with competing priorities
  • Provide input to planning activities to estimate effort to complete sprint planning and execution tasks/activities
  • Must be detail oriented and have the ability to multi-task
  • Fast starter, effectively delivers with limited supervision
  • Must have excellent communication skills written as well as verbal; must be able to articulate the value proposition of solution/services to senior teams from client/prospect
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both the business and technical teams
  • AWS Certified preferred
  • Finance or Automotive Industry experience preferred
  • Experience in Agile / SCRUM (with sprints) methodologies preferred
