The Opportunity
This role is on a hybrid schedule in our Charlotte, NC office with a few days in office weekly.
Ally is seeking a Portfolio Manager to help establish and develop a new portfolio management function, supporting the newly formed centralized Consumer Banking Project Management Office (PMO) division. This individual contributor role provides an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to define the approaches and standards that will shape the future of Ally’s portfolio management capabilities. The Portfolio Manager will engage directly with business, digital, and technology partners across all levels of the organization.
The Work Itself
- Own and manage processes related to capacity management, including the development and maintenance of reporting tools and dashboards to monitor progress against plan
- Identify and implement processes to address project issues, mitigate risks, and provide proactive insights to stakeholders related to the Consumer Banking roadmap
- Develop and implement portfolio governance frameworks to ensure alignment with organizational goals, including defining and documenting the standard methodology and templates/artifacts to follow
- Prepare and conduct regular portfolio reviews for executive leadership to report out on portfolio health, highlight key trends, risks, and opportunities
- Facilitate prioritization of projects and initiatives based on strategic objectives, resource availability, and cross-functional team dependencies
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities for the project portfolio, collaborating with finance, technology, and business teams on a quarterly basis
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams – including business, digital, and technology stakeholders – to ensure clear and consistent communication of project goals, progress, and challenges across the portfolio
- Work closely with the project management team to align and standardize processes for managing project scope, schedules, and budgets, promoting best practices and consistency in execution
- Design and implement a formal process for reviewing net-new projects, requiring leadership sign-off prior to prioritization, taking into consideration an assessment of expected value and strategic alignment
- Establish and track metrics to measure the value delivered and the outcomes achieved by portfolio initiatives, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with financial objectives
The Skills You Bring
- 9 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Bachelor's degree; advanced degree a plus
- 10 years of experience in program/portfolio management within financial services, with a proven track record of managing complex portfolios across multiple business lines
- 5+ years of leadership experience preferred
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience collaborating with executive leadership and cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated expertise in portfolio analysis and performance measurement
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Demonstrated capacity for establishing standards and driving process improvement
- Ability to influence, partner, and negotiate with senior business leaders to gain commitment to drive business outcomes
- Demonstrated skill in delivering concise, time-critical information to stakeholders, ensuring prompt and informed decision making
- Experience in portfolio management software such as JIRA and Confluence
- Additional certifications preferred: PMP, CSM, ITIL
- Proficient in MS Excel
