Ally and Your Career

Ally Financial only succeeds when its people do - and that’s more than some cliche people put on job postings. We live this stuff! We see our people as, well, people - with interests, families, friends, dreams and causes that are all important to them. Our focus is on the health and safety of our teammates as well as work-life balance and diversity and inclusion. From generous benefits to a variety of employee resource groups, we strive to build paths that encourage employees to stretch themselves professionally. We want to help you grow, develop, and learn new things. You’re constantly evolving, so shouldn’t your opportunities be, too?

The Opportunity

In early 2021 Ally’s CFO Group launched a comprehensive, multi-year finance transformation program. As we continue to build out the infrastructure to support the various transformation initiatives, we are looking for a talented product owner to drive the CFO Data Strategy and successful execution of the Finance Data Hub initiative, which will establish a centralized data platform serving as a single source of truth for all finance data. The ideal candidate will have proven product management and data management skills, prior finance experience, an ability to juggle competing priorities in a dynamic environment, and a passion for driving organizational value through data.

The Work Itself

  • Support the delivery of the CFO Group’s data driven transformation, and the implementation of the finance data solution as a data product owner
    • Serve as a key liaison between the finance process teams and technologies on understanding, interpretation and documentation of business data needs for their workstream/domain and driving the development backlog for their scrum team
    • Lead the implementation of their workstream/domain within the finance data solution, across data ingestion, consumption, analytics enablement, and sound data management controls
    • Manage competing priorities and demands for their scrum team, define priorities and ensure the team executes to those defined priorities and sequencing for their workstream/domain
    • Track, resolve and escalate program risks, issues, actions, and decisions for their workstream/domain
    • Drive transparency on the scope and status of their workstream/domain with both finance and technology leadership, and stakeholders
    • Support definition, measurement and reporting on KPIs to measure operational performance and project success for their workstream/domain

The Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in either Finance or Data Management of which at least the last 2 years must be as a product owner driving transformation through automation or data strategy implementation (or an equivalent data management execution role within Technologies – not looking for project management background)
  • Prior banking industry experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated domain knowledge of key finance, accounting, and treasury processes (e.g., financial close and consolidation; financial planning and forecasting; financial, management and regulatory reporting; treasury operations and cash management; asset and liability management; capital markets)
  • Strong knowledge of one or more data management disciplines (e.g., data ingestion, data consumption, BI/analytics, data quality, metadata, etc.)
  • Previous experience of successfully implementing large scale data solutions (either at an enterprise or finance level) strongly preferred
  • Proven problem-solving skills, with a breadth of perspective and ability to “connect the dots” even in areas outside one’s primary subject matter expertise, and ability to reach beyond immediate sphere of influence to pull in stakeholders and drive expedient resolution
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, making trade-off decisions where necessary to best benefit the organization
  • Ability to proactively identify and manage risks
