The Opportunity

Ally is looking for a Research Manager to join the Consumer Insights & Innovation Research Team in a high visibility, high impact role that focuses on elevating consumer empathy and vantage pointsThis person will be the champion for Ally customers and consumer prospects and help ensure that work begins and ends with a customer lens. This role will work with internal business partners to understand the needs of the business and managing end-to-end custom research resulting in actionable recommendations. This position will work closely across all lines of business as well as Allys product & concept innovation studio.  

The Work Itself

  • Collaborate with internal business partners to understand business goals, uncover knowledge gaps, and identify opportunities where consumer research can provide helpful insights for the business. 
    • Role will support research across all lines of business at Ally including credit card, lending, deposits, invest, auto, and mortgage to embed consumer feedback into business decisions.
  • Manage end to end consumer research
    • Design quantitative research plans
    • Develop research questions
    • Program and conduct research using variety of methods and tools, particularly qualitative research, such as interviews, diary studies, and ethnography
    • Analyze data and uncover insights
    • Present findings and make actionable recommendations on the results
  • Manage variety of projects across different stages at any given time
  • Partner with cross-functional teams supporting human centered design innovation process at Ally’s concept & product testing studio
  • Participate in ideation sessions, brainstorming activities, empathy building activities, storytelling, etc.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise with quantitative research approaches, including consideration of methodologies, tools, and resources
  • Act as a consumer advocate, bringing relevant research insights into context supporting business planning and strategic actions

The Skills You Bring


·       Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, social sciences, or related field; specialized certification or degree related to qualitative research or behavioral science is a plus

·       5+ years of market research experience in a business to consumer setting, financial services experience is a plus

·       Experience designing and analyzing a range quantitative research, including questionnaire design, data analysis, report design / creation

·       Flexible & adaptable to changing needs

·       Strong presentation skills – comfortable presenting and explaining ideas to others in both formal and informal settings.  Able to adjust to the needs and preferences of the audience.

·       Storytelling – able to pull a storyline from research, not just report numbers/facts.  Able to summarize key takeaways with implications for the business for executive level consumption.

·       Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

·       Curious and collaborative nature

·       Excellent written and oral communication skills

·       Curiosity for innovation in research
