The Opportunity

The Manager will, under the direction of the Senior Director of AI Data Science, partner with teams across all Lines of Business as well as Risk and Compliance to formulate, drive, and embed analytically based solutions across Ally.

In role, the ideal candidate will lead the development of statistical models in support of understanding all customer interactions with the bank. This leader will also be an integral part of building our future data, technological, and strategic capabilities. The solutions that the Director of Data Science develops will be integral to shaping every communication Ally has with its customers.

The ideal candidate should have a strong focus on attention to detail, expertise with both structured and unstructured data, and have a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement. Further, the ideal candidate must be able to thrive in situations of high ambiguity, where research and deep data analysis is necessary, often for extended periods of time, before performing more complex analyses.

The Work Itself

  • Lead analytical model development and help modernize our data infrastructure to be forward compatible with new analytical approaches.
  • Assist data related activities to support development of new data science approaches and methodologies to improve operations and business outcomes.
  • Develop a standard modeling process and help the larger team apply analytic best practices.
  • Partner with shared technical and business resources (LOBs, IT teams, Risk, etc.) to effectively deliver and support solutions.
  • Help translate business partner requirements into data and analytical specifications.
  • Generate insights about journeys, analytical actions across channels, and support true omnichannel actions.
  • Assist with data and model governance support.
  • Support training and learning initiatives that help grow talent within Ally.
  • Participate with internal user communities.
  • Prepare and analyze account-level consumer data from internal and external sources to identify stronger predictors for various models.
  • Complete model documentation post development according to regulatory and compliance rules.
  • Support model implementation and monitor production activities post development.
  • Investigate new approaches, modeling techniques and uses of both batch and streaming data on Ally's big data platform.
  • Determine, develop and document data requirements, modeling assumptions and model results for best practice methodologies deployed and alternatives approaches considered.

The Skills You Bring

  • 5+ years of modeling/analytics experience; at least 4 years of building analytical models in a banking environment.
  • Masters' degree in a data science related field (e.g. Statistics, Applied Mathematics, etc.), or an MBA with experience in data science or equivalent experience.
  • Experience using a broad range of quantitative analytical techniques, from descriptive statistical analysis to predictive and prescriptive analytic solutions. Importantly, the candidate will have a strong aptitude to determine the appropriate tool for each task.
  • Knowledge of Pegasystems Customer Decision Hub, Pega Certified Data Scientist a plus
  • Snowflake and AWS experience
  • Strong knowledge Python
  • Strong communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills, being able to translate models into business insights across the bank.
