Ally and Your Career

Ally Financial only succeeds when its people do - and that’s more than some cliché people put on job postings. We live this stuff! We see our people as, well, people - with interests, families, friends, dreams, and causes that are all important to them. Our focus is on the health and safety of our teammates as well as work-life balance and diversity and inclusion. From generous benefits to a variety of employee resource groups, we strive to build paths that encourage employees to stretch themselves professionally. We want to help you grow, develop, and learn new things. You’re constantly evolving, so shouldn’t your opportunities be, too?

Work Schedule: Ally designates roles as (1) fully on-site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. Hybrid roles are generally expected to be in the office a certain number of days per week as indicated by your manager. Your hiring manager will discuss this role's specific work requirements with you during the hiring process. All work requirements are subject to change at any time based on leader discretion and/or business need.

The Opportunity

At Ally, you get a startup feel, but experience the benefits of a company that has worked out the kinks and is fulfilling its purpose. We are always evolving and see that as a good thing. From owning our work to seeing its impact in the real world, our team is relentless in finding new ways technology can help make experiences better and help people. We are problem solvers, we value diverse thinking, we support one another, and we challenge ourselves to think bigger in the journey to deliver customer-obsessed tech solutions. You will join a small, high-output team building enterprise-grade AI agent systems using the Anthropic Claude API and Claude Code. Your primary focus is two programs: Logos, our AI platform initiative, and Lightspeed, a portfolio of 29+ PoCs spanning AI/ML automation, business process modernization, cloud infrastructure re-engineering, and specialized platform tooling. Both programs are active and shipping.

The foundational work centers on the agent knowledge core — the structured manifest of agent types, behavioral rules, coding standards, discovery protocols, and domain context that makes our AI agents reliable, consistent, and governable at enterprise scale. You will extend this system, add new agent types, and build the production pipelines that put agents to work in real workflows.

This is not a role for someone who wants to prompt-tune existing tools. You will be writing and owning code that runs in production, integrating with Jira, Confluence, Dynatrace, and internal systems, and solving the hard problems that come after the demo works.

At this time, Ally will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.

The Work Itself

Agent and knowledge core development

  • Extend the agent manifest with new specialist agent types (define capability, constraints, tool access, handoff protocol)
  • Maintain and evolve the behavioral rules, discovery guide, and coding standards that all agents inherit
  • Build the memory and context-passing infrastructure that makes agents coherent across multi-step tasks

Lightspeed PoC productionization

  • Carry high-scoring PoCs (test automation, vulnerability management, architecture agents, risk review automation) from working demo to production-ready service
  • Add the reliability layer each PoC currently lacks: retries, circuit breakers, health endpoints, SLO instrumentation, runbooks
  • Integrate with existing engineering toolchains (Jira workflows, CI/CD pipelines, Dynatrace observability)

Logos platform implementation

  • Build and ship features on the Logos platform, publishing deliverables and documentation to the PLS Confluence space
  • Implement agent-driven workflows that automate high-friction engineering tasks at scale

Cross-cutting concerns

  • Write Python and TypeScript automation scripts that interact with Confluence, Jira, and internal REST APIs via authenticated calls
  • Build coverage, vulnerability scanning, and SRE readiness gate pipelines using the established agent patterns
  • Maintain and improve CI gate behavior, test coverage thresholds, and regression detection

The Skills You Bring

Minimum Requirements:
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field(s) of study or equivalent
Preferred Requirements:
  • 4+ years of professional software development; strong in at least two of: Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java/Kotlin.
  • Production experience building systems that call external APIs — REST, auth patterns, error handling, retry logic.
  • Demonstrated ability to read an unfamiliar codebase quickly and extend it without breaking what exists.
  • Strong written communication — your code, commit messages, and Confluence documentation are read by humans and agents alike.
  • Strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with the Anthropic Claude API or Claude Code (tool use, agentic loops, multi-step tasks).
  • Experience building or maintaining a structured agent framework — prompt routing, context management, behavioral guardrails.
  • Familiarity with Confluence and Jira REST APIs (Cloud or on-prem).
  • SRE or platform engineering background: SLOs, observability instrumentation, production readiness gates.
  • Financial services experience or comfort operating under strict change management and security controls.
  • What sets the best candidates apart.
  • You have built something real with AI agents — not a toy, a system that runs unsupervised and handles failure gracefully.
  • You think about agent behavior the way a senior engineer thinks about service contracts: what can the caller rely on, what are the invariants, what happens when inputs are bad.
  • You are as comfortable writing Python scripts that hit internal APIs as you are designing the agent type that calls them.
