The Opportunity

The Ally Financial HR Risk Testing and Monitoring function is responsible for the objective assessment, oversight, and effective challenge of risks and controls within the HR function.  This position supports the Human Resources Risk Management Program. The objective of the HR Risk Management Program is to identify, prioritize, and mitigate risks owned by the HR organization.  The results help management identify risks and areas of opportunity/control gaps.  The HR Risk function also is responsible for the evaluation of whether Ally remains aligned with its risk appetite and risk limits.

The primary focus of this role will be assessing and addressing risk within the HR function through various risk management activities/responsibilities, more specifically the execution of data governance routines and evaluation of risk and control definition within Project Evolution.  In this role, the HR Risk Manager will also be responsible for implementation and execution of other Risk Management processes and procedures related to risk associated with Ally’s Human Resources Business Line (e.g. issue management). The successful candidate will be responsible for demonstrating skills in identifying and assessing process risks, evaluating the effectiveness of controls, and executing, documenting, and reviewing risk routines. The position will require the ability to effectively consult on risks and issues and manage multiple priorities efficiently while demonstrating excellent time management skills.

The ideal candidate must be passionate about delivering results, must be self-motivated, detail oriented, able to learn new systems/process and work well under pressure. This role will require effective organizational, time management, and written communication skills.

This is a terrific opportunity for individuals with an audit, risk, and/or data analytics background to leverage their current skills and learn/interact with seasoned Human Resources Subject Matter Experts.  This role could also be a great opportunity for risk professionals to refine their testing and communication skills.

The Work Itself

·         Manage the priorities using sound control processes (daily/weekly/monthly) to effectively identify, assess and manage risk.

 

·         Collaboratively work with matrix & vendor partners to ensure alignment with Ally’s strategic imperatives.

·         Manage the policies and process around governance and oversight of HR owned data (e.g. data sharing rules, data stewardship, etc.)

·         Assess risk associated with HR data (e.g. PII, PHI, Comp, etc) and establish control routines to reduce risk associated with sharing HR owned data

 

·         Perform ad hoc projects as assigned, to assist HR BL Risk in analyzing Ally's risk and control environment.

·         Lead in developing methodologies to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, governance, and risk management.

·         Review and interpret work papers and analyses presented by team members and consistently draw the right conclusions.

·         Prepare for and conduct key meetings and presentations with management.

·         Understand, comply, maintain, and reinforce regulatory and firm policies and procedures/guidelines.

·         Work with business on ongoing initiatives (e.g. Project Evolution) to develop recommendations for process control improvements. 

·         Assess staff against established performance and leadership criteria; provide timely, honest, and meaningful project evaluations.

·         Develop and maintain proactive working relationships with personnel across Ally.

·         Ability to draft executive level presentations to communicate conclusions and recommendations to all levels of management.

·         Support continuous process improvement by identifying needs and opportunities and recommending appropriate process changes; champion a common testing and monitoring process approach; recommend process changes to maintain quality standards.

·         Stay current on industry trends, service models, and regulations impacting Human Resources.

·         Present special topics to peers and HR Leadership Team as necessary.

The Skills You Bring

·         Bachelors (or higher) degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Statistics, or other related field of study required.

·         5+ years of relevant experience within financial services, human resources and/or internal/external auditing required. 

·         Practical experience working with large datasets with SAS and/or SQL knowledge

·         Relevant certification strongly preferred (e.g., CIA, CISA, PHR).

·         SPHR or PHR certification helpful

·         Strong leadership and managerial skills (detail-oriented, deadline driven, self-directed, organized, etc.)

·         Demonstrated history of learning new skill sets as needed to perform challenging and complex tasks.

·         Demonstrate a solid understanding of data mining and classification techniques, minimum 4 years of experience using SAS/SQL or similar   tools for data analysis and portfolio segmentation

·         Proven ability to excel in highly interactive team environment that is spread across multiple locations.

·         Ability to adapt to change and new challenges that arise.

·         Ability to build and maintain strong management relationships.

·         Strong analytical, critical thinking, written, and verbal communications skills.

·         Strong collaboration, negotiation, and problem resolution skills.

·         Expertise with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required, Access and SharePoint).

·         Available to travel 20% or less
