The Director of Software Engineering at Ally strategically leads multiple software engineering teams through designing, developing, and deploying software solutions within our fast-growing SmartAuction platform. They share our ambitious goal to accelerate delivery and dramatically shorten the time between ‘idea’ and ‘release’. They leverage their knowledge of Agile methodologies & emerging software development trends to help us reduce friction in the development and deployment activities, while maintaining code quality and expanding our test automation coverage.

The Work Itself

      • Establish processes, tools, technology roadmaps, and quality metrics monitoring for the software solutions we deliver 
      • Work with business and technology stakeholders to solidify project objectives, architecture, and scope 
      • Deliver software technology solutions that accomplish the business objectives with on-time delivery, budget adherence, and exceptional quality 
      • Utilize technical knowledge, creativity, and understanding of company best practices and priorities to obtain solutions to complex problems 
      • Coach and advise software engineering teams of Ally standard requirements, security standards, methodology, and processes 
      • Lead Software Engineer teams through mentorship & continuous tutorials to guarantee team success

      The Skills You Bring

      • 7+ years of Software Development experience including experience in Technical Leadership roles
      • Extensive experience with Java application stacks and JavaScript frameworks
      • Advocate for company best practices and modern software development methods and tools
      • Experience with rapid, iterative development cycles and continuous integration and deployment of technologies
      • Experience with delivery approaches using tools such as: GitLab, Bitbucket, Git, SVN, Jenkins, Nexus, SonarQube
      • Desire to work within a diverse group of people and passion for challenging the status quo
      • Knowledge of change management tools and processes, code branching, merging, & commit strategies, feature branches, and trunk-based development
      • Enthusiasm and curiosity for staying up-to-date on tech industry developments and is excited to share and engage the Ally community on new advancements
