The Opportunity

The Compliance Manager reports to the Compliance Director and is responsible for managing the processes and procedures used to plan and execute Compliance testing. The Compliance Manager will have a critical role in staff development and establishing effective relationships with other independent risk management teams and business partners at Ally. This role requires knowledge of and familiarity with consumer regulatory requirements and a solid business understanding associated with Mortgage, Deposits, Digital & Marketing.

The Work Itself

  • Executes testing to a sample of data, process, transactions, controls, identified risks and captures results, compliance risk and root cause(s).  Then, communicates to relevant parties (compliance, line of business, auditors, examiners, etc.).
  • Responsible for the development of test scripts and test methodology in support of test procedures and regulatory requirements applicable to the business line.
  • Partner with compliance staff to identify business line compliance controls, develop a corresponding test plan and independently lead the execution of testing compliance controls with a test of design and test of effectiveness
  • Lead discussions with support partners and business unit management along with senior level management to communicate the compliance testing scope, objective, exceptions/issues and associated regulatory risk identified.
  • Effectively identify and communicate unusual and difficult problems to compliance leadership.
  • Serve as contact within compliance in a collaborative way to foster positive working relationships, provide control advice and issue trends and to stay abreast of major business activities and process changes; and make compliance plan recommendations as necessary.
  • Assist the Compliance Testing Professional in the development and execution of compliance testing and report results in accordance with the Enterprise Testing and Monitoring Policy and the Compliance Testing Procedures.
  • Review and interpret workpapers and analysis presented by team members and ensuring workpapers align with program requirements and are clear, concise, and consistently draw the right conclusions.
  • Mentor & develop compliance staff and act as a knowledge resource.
  • Perform second level review of detailed desktop procedures or methodology documentation ensuring clear documentation is present to provide testing guidance for less experienced team members to execute testing.
  • Serve as a second level review for transaction test scripts ensuring applicable regulatory requirements have been identified and appropriate test scripts have been written.
  • Ensure adherence to the compliance issues management program including timely and accurate updates.
  • Possess a strong foundation and the ability to determine which Consumer Laws, Rules and Regulations are required for new areas/processes and keep abreast of relevant changes in laws, rules, regulations that impact the financial services industry.
  • Participate in timely responses to regulatory exams and internal audit requests.

The Skills You Bring

  • 5+ years auditing / testing experience including experience developing and executing and leading the execution of test plans as Project Lead, with 7+ years preferred
  • 5+ years of Compliance experience, with emphasis on Consumer Regulations including a strong understanding of applicable law and regulation requirements.
  • Financial services testing experience across multiple business areas (Mortgage, Deposits, Digital & Marketing).
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and understand laws and regulations, ensuring appropriate requirements ensuring related controls have been identified and appropriate test plans have been developed, coaching/mentoring staff as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated effective project management skills and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to learn and assist in training of less senior staff on new processes, systems and controls.
  • Ability to identify the most appropriate testing technique and execute testing and/or lead testing efforts accordingly.
  • Ability to identify, quantify and communicate risk and related root cause to all levels of management.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong management relationships within the compliance and business lines areas noted above.
  • Attention to detail and superior written and oral communication skills with a proven ability to communicate and influence effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong leadership skills (detail-oriented, deadline driven, self-directed, organized, etc.) with proven track record of increasing responsibilities within the organization
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Bachelors’ degree in business or a related major.
