The Opportunity

The Research Manager, Strategy & Innovation will join an existing research & concept development team to support research needs at Ally’s concept & product testing studio. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the voice of the consumer and is embedded in all stages of our human centered design process. This is a high visibility and high impact role that focuses on elevating consumer empathy and vantage points. This person will be a champion for Ally customers and consumer prospects to help ensure work begins and ends with a consumer lens.

The Work Itself

  • Embed within cross-functional teams to conduct research supporting all stages of human centered design at Ally’s concept & product testing studio.
  • Participate in ideation sessions, brainstorming activities, empathy building activities, storytelling, etc.
  • Manage end to end qualitative and quantitative consumer research, with an emphasis on teaching and guiding all members of the team to participate in research activities (democratized research approach).
  • Develop and review research plans including research screeners, survey questions, concept tests, and interview guides.
  • Program surveys using variety of online tools.
  • Analyze data, uncover key insights, and guide and monitor team’s approach to develop of research insights.
  • Present findings and make actionable recommendations on the results.
  • Manage variety of projects across various stages at any given time
  • Maintain subject matter expertise with research approaches, including consideration of methodologies, tools, and resources.
  • Serve as a leader of the core studio team driving the positive studio culture and serving as a mentor for rotational team members, interns, and rotational analysts.

The Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, social sciences, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of market research experience in a business to consumer setting, financial services experience and/or design thinking / human centered design / innovation experience is a plus.
  • Experience designing and analyzing a range of qualitative and quantitative research, including questionnaire / discussion guide design, data analysis, report design / creation.
  • Flexible & adaptable to changing needs and fast paced work environment.
  • Strong presentation skills – comfortable presenting and explaining ideas to others in both formal and informal settings. Able to adjust to the needs and preferences of the audience.
  • Storytelling – able to pull a storyline from data, not just report numbers. Able to summarize key takeaways with implications for the business for executive level consumption.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Curious and collaborative nature
  • Experience across different research methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative.
  • Curiosity for innovation in research
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
