The Opportunity
Evaluates risks according to location, physical and moral hazards, underwriting guidelines and loss experience in order to accept, decline or modify submission. Also, evaluates information received concerning risk characteristics, inspection reports, producer information, etc. May review loss experience of individual accounts and assigned territory. This is a newly formed team that specializes in underwriting large national groups as well as lender specific programs. Top 3 things we're looking for: Insurance Underwriting experience in the Auto Physical damage space with experience of large or complex accounts being a plus, Insurance designations or insurance related education background, Someone who is comfortable working in a dynamic and fast paced environment. Location: hybrid role in Detroit, MI or Schaumburg, IL (3 days in office / 2 days remote).
The Work Itself
- Serves as a consultant to producers and customer service personnel and claim personnel, as required.
- Works closely with external producers to place insurance coverage within the program.
- Submits complex or unusual risks or exposures and risks exceeding personal underwriting authority to Senior Underwriter or line-of-business head for approval.
- Authority level will be greater than associate underwriters but less than senior underwriters.
- May be assigned accounts or territories deemed to be more complex or more catastrophe exposed than those assigned to associate underwriters.
- Will be part of the Open Market underwriting team.
The Skills You Bring
- 2+ years in financial services or similar industry is needed.
- Previous physical damage insurance underwriting experience preferred.
- Prior leadership experience is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in business related discipline preferred.
- Education may be used as a proxy for experience.
- Perform technical tasks required to support ongoing business operations.
- Skilled technician in a hands-on environment, often highly specialized.
- Typically requires advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs.
